Our Data
StrikeMap ingests data from multiple distinct source categories, each with different strengths, latencies, and failure modes. No single source is authoritative — the platform is designed to cross-reference and corroborate across all of them, building confidence through convergence rather than trusting any individual feed.
Every incoming report is processed through an AI enrichment pipeline that extracts structured fields, resolves locations to coordinates, and checks for duplicates across sources. The same real-world event reported on Telegram, in a news article, and confirmed by satellite data is collapsed into a single record enriched with all available information.
Telegram Channels
What it isOfficial military and government channels alongside unofficial conflict aggregators, monitored across English, Arabic, Hebrew, and Persian.
What it providesFirst-person strike reports, military claims, casualty figures, damage assessments, video and photo evidence, and official government statements.
Update frequencyReal-time. Messages are ingested within seconds of posting via WebSocket streaming.
Known limitationsTelegram is inherently unverified — channels range from official military communications to anonymous aggregators with varying reliability. Propaganda, exaggeration, and deliberate misinformation are common. Reports are treated as claims until corroborated by other sources.
RSS News FeedsComing Soon
What it isCurated set of major international news outlets and conflict-focused publications.
What it providesJournalist-verified reporting on strikes, political developments, official statements, and humanitarian impact. Typically more conservative and delayed than Telegram but higher baseline reliability.
Update frequencyPolled every few minutes. Most outlets publish within 15–60 minutes of an event.
Known limitationsNews outlets have editorial filters that delay and sometimes omit events. Coverage bias varies by outlet and region. Wire services are fastest; analysis outlets are slowest.
Tzofar (Israel Missile Alerts)
What it isIsrael's official real-time missile alert system. Tzofar pushes alerts when incoming threats are detected, specifying affected areas and threat type.
What it providesReal-time missile and rocket alerts with geographic zones, threat classification (rockets, UAVs, hostile aircraft intrusion), and active/cleared status.
Update frequencyInstantaneous — alerts stream via WebSocket the moment they are issued by Israeli civil defense.
Known limitationsCovers only threats to Israeli territory. Does not include strikes on other countries. Alert zones are approximate civil defense regions, not precise impact locations. False alerts occur occasionally.
NASA FIRMS (Satellite Thermal Anomalies)
What it isNASA's Fire Information for Resource Management System detects thermal anomalies from satellite instruments (MODIS and VIIRS). StrikeMap uses this data to independently corroborate or refute strike claims.
What it providesGeolocated thermal hotspots with confidence levels, timestamps, and satellite instrument metadata. A thermal signature at a reported strike location strengthens the claim; absence weakens it.
Update frequencySatellite passes occur multiple times per day, but there is a processing delay of 1–4 hours between detection and data availability. Data is synced periodically.
Known limitationsCloud cover blocks detection. Small strikes may not produce a detectable thermal signature. Fires from non-conflict causes (industrial, agricultural) create false positives. Temporal gaps between satellite passes mean some events are missed entirely.
NOTAMs (Notices to Air Missions)
What it isOfficial international airspace notices issued by civil aviation authorities. These include airspace closures, restrictions, danger zones, and military activity warnings.
What it providesGeospatial airspace restriction polygons, effective time windows, altitude limits, issuing authority, and reason codes. Displayed as map overlays with per-country and per-FIR status.
Update frequencySynced periodically. NOTAMs are issued and updated by aviation authorities as conditions change — sometimes minutes before airspace is affected.
Known limitationsNOTAM language is highly technical and abbreviated. Not all military activity triggers a NOTAM. Some closures are routine (exercises, VIP movement) and unrelated to the conflict. Retroactive NOTAMs sometimes appear after the event.
AIS (Vessel Tracking)
What it isAutomatic Identification System data tracking maritime vessel positions, identities, and movements globally via commercial AIS data providers.
What it providesReal-time vessel positions, headings, speeds, vessel type and flag state, port calls, and route history. Used to monitor naval movements, shipping disruptions, and maritime security incidents.
Update frequencyPolled from commercial AIS providers. AIS transponders broadcast every few seconds; satellite AIS provides global coverage with slight delays.
Known limitationsAIS can be intentionally disabled or spoofed — military vessels frequently go dark. Satellite AIS has gaps in coverage and latency. Vessel identity can be falsified. AIS absence is informative but not conclusive.
Aircraft Tracking (ADS-B)
What it isAutomatic Dependent Surveillance–Broadcast data providing real-time aircraft positions from transponder broadcasts. Covers commercial, military (when transponders are active), and general aviation.
What it providesReal-time aircraft positions, altitude, heading, velocity, callsign, and aircraft type. Used to track military flights, airspace activity patterns, and unusual flight behavior in conflict zones.
Update frequencyReal-time. ADS-B transponders broadcast position updates every few seconds.
Known limitationsMilitary aircraft frequently disable transponders during operations, making them invisible to ADS-B. Coverage depends on receiver network density — remote areas and open ocean have gaps. Transponder data can be spoofed.
GPS Jamming Detection
What it isGrid-based anomaly detection derived from aircraft position data. When GPS receivers report degraded or anomalous positions within a geographic area, StrikeMap detects and maps the jamming activity.
What it providesGeographic grid cells with detected GPS jamming activity, classified by intensity level (low, medium, high). Used to identify electronic warfare activity and areas of GPS denial.
Update frequencyContinuous — derived in real time from incoming ADS-B position data.
Known limitationsDetection relies on aircraft being present in the affected area with active transponders. Areas with low air traffic may not generate enough data points for reliable detection. Natural GPS interference (solar activity, atmospheric conditions) can produce false positives.
Siren Detection
What it isMultilingual detection of active air raid sirens from any ingested source. When a source reports sirens sounding in a specific location, the system extracts and tracks the activation per country.
What it providesPer-country siren activation status, extracted from Telegram messages, news reports, and other text sources across all supported languages.
Update frequencyReal-time — derived from the same ingestion pipelines as other text-based sources.
Known limitationsDependent on sources reporting siren activity. May lag behind actual activations if no monitored source reports them immediately. Cannot distinguish between test sirens and genuine alerts without additional context.
Seismic Event Monitoring
What it isEarthquake and explosion-correlated seismic data from international seismological networks (USGS, EMSC). Used to detect and corroborate large explosions that produce detectable seismic signatures.
What it providesSeismic event locations, magnitudes, depth, and timestamps. Events near conflict zones with shallow depth and characteristics consistent with explosions are flagged for correlation with reported strikes.
Update frequencySynced periodically. Seismic networks typically report events within 5–20 minutes of occurrence, with location and magnitude refined over the following hours.
Known limitationsOnly large explosions produce detectable seismic signatures — most individual strikes are too small. Depth estimates help distinguish natural earthquakes from surface explosions, but ambiguity remains. Seismic network coverage varies by region.
Internet Outage Tracking
What it isCountry-level monitoring of internet connectivity disruptions, with cause analysis where available.
What it providesCountry-level outage detection with timing, severity, and attributed cause (infrastructure damage, government shutdown, cable cut, cyberattack). Used to correlate connectivity disruptions with conflict events.
Update frequencySynced periodically from internet monitoring data sources.
Known limitationsCountry-level granularity — cannot pinpoint outages to specific cities or regions within a country. Cause attribution is often speculative in the early hours. Partial degradation is harder to detect than full outages.
Financial Market Tracking
What it isMonitoring of conflict-relevant financial instruments including crude oil, natural gas, gold, defense sector stocks, and other commodities sensitive to escalation.
What it providesPrice movements, percentage changes, and trend data for commodities and equities that historically correlate with conflict escalation. Provides economic context alongside the operational picture.
Update frequencyUpdated during market hours. Commodity futures may update near-continuously.
Known limitationsFinancial markets react to many factors beyond conflict events. Correlation with specific incidents is contextual, not causal. After-hours and weekend gaps mean some conflict events occur outside trading windows.
YouTube Live Stream Monitoring
What it isMonitoring of live video streams covering conflict zones, including news broadcasts, independent journalists, and official channels.
What it providesLive video feed availability and status. Allows users to access real-time visual coverage of events as they unfold.
Update frequencyContinuously monitored for stream availability and status.
Known limitationsStream availability depends on broadcaster uptime and internet connectivity in conflict zones. Streams may be delayed, taken down, or interrupted without notice. Content is not verified by StrikeMap.
